A Stunning Coastal Wedding at Grand Villa Heights | Ashley & Andrew’s Sea View Celebration

Intro: Affordable Luxury Meets Coastal Charm

Perched high above the shimmering coastline of Robin Hood’s Bay, Grand Villa Heights is one of those venues that instantly takes your breath away. Offering affordable luxury, personality, and panoramic views across the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it’s the kind of place that feels both relaxed and refined — a perfect match for couples looking to celebrate in style without the stuffiness.

As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky to visit some incredible locations across the region, but there’s something extra special about this one. The blend of coastal light, sweeping scenery, and laid-back energy makes it a dream backdrop for documentary wedding photography and creative wedding portraits alike.

I hadn’t had the pleasure of shooting at this venue previously but ended up shooting two wedding there is the same week. This was one of those gorgeous weddings.

Ashley & Andrew’s Wedding at Grand Villa Heights

From the moment I arrived for Ashley and Andrew’s wedding, I knew it was going to be one of those unforgettable, joy-filled days that perfectly reflects why I love what I do. Their celebration was all about connection, laughter, and pure coastal magic — from an outdoor ceremony overlooking the sea to sunset portraits that glowed with soft, golden light.

The couple chose Grand Villa Heights for its stunning views and intimate atmosphere. With guests gathering on the terrace to take in the sweeping vistas of Robin Hood’s Bay, the ceremony felt relaxed yet elegant — the perfect reflection of their personalities.

After saying “I do” beneath the open sky, guests were treated to a live saxophone performance that set the tone for the rest of the day. The blend of chilled and energetic tunes mixed with sea breeze made for an atmosphere that was both stylish and soulful — exactly what Ashley and Andrew envisioned.

Candid, Creative and Full of Personality

What stood out most about this day was how genuinely fun it felt. Everyone was relaxed, laughing, and soaking in every moment — exactly the kind of energy that allows my natural style to shine.

I spent much of the day documenting the story as it unfolded — those in-between moments that often go unseen. The giggles during speeches, hugs from family, the joy on faces as the saxophonist played a spontaneous tune… all captured through candid wedding photography that tells the real story, not a staged version of it.

Later, as the evening light softened, we took a wander through the grounds of Grand Villa Heights for a few creative wedding portraits. The sun was beginning to dip, bathing the gardens and sea in a warm glow that made everything feel cinematic. Those moments — just the two of them, laughing together against the backdrop of the coast — were some of my favourites from the entire day.

Why Grand Villa Heights Is a Dream North Yorkshire Wedding Venue

It’s not hard to see why Grand Villa Heights has become such a sought-after North Yorkshire wedding venue. It manages to feel luxurious yet homely, intimate yet grand. Whether you’re planning a summer garden celebration or a cosy winter wedding with sea views, the venue’s mix of modern comfort and timeless charm makes it incredibly versatile.

For couples who love the outdoors, the surrounding area offers endless opportunities for photographs — from the dramatic cliffs of Robin Hood’s Bay to the rolling hills of the North Yorkshire Moors just beyond. It’s the perfect blend of rustic countryside and coastal elegance.

And for me, as a North East wedding photographer, it’s one of those locations that truly inspires creativity. The way the light plays across the landscape, the textures of the old stone villa, the vibrant coastal tones — every detail invites storytelling through the lens.

Capturing Weddings in My Natural Style

My approach to every wedding, whether in the heart of Durham, the Lake District or overlooking the sea in North Yorkshire, is all about keeping things laid back, fun, and stress-free. I believe the best images happen when you’re simply being yourselves — laughing, chatting, celebrating with the people you love.

That’s why I focus on a documentary wedding photography style, blending in quietly to capture real emotion and honest moments. Then, when it’s time for couple portraits, I guide things gently to create creative, natural portraits that reflect your connection without feeling forced or posed.

Ashley and Andrew’s day at Grand Villa Heights was the perfect reminder of why I love this approach. It’s about storytelling, not just photographs — creating a record of your day that feels authentic and full of life.
