Langley Castle Hotel Wedding — A Magical Indian–English Fusion Celebration | Aashna & Matthew

If you’re dreaming of a fairy-tale wedding in a real medieval castle, Langley Castle Hotel in Hexham, Northumberland, might just be the venue you’ve been searching for. As a North East wedding photographer who specialises in a natural, relaxed and candid style, I’ve photographed weddings in many beautiful places — but Langley Castle has a magic that’s hard to beat.

And Aashna & Matthew’s vibrant Indian–English fusion wedding showcased that magic perfectly.

From energetic dancing in the rain during the Baraat, to a moving first look on the castle rooftop, to a tipi filled with colour and culture, their wedding day was joyful, emotional and beautifully unique. The evening finished with fireworks lighting up the sky — the perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Whether you’re planning a fusion wedding, a castle wedding, or simply want your day documented in a natural, storytelling style, here’s a closer look at what it’s like to get married at this iconic Northumberland wedding venue.

A Colourful, Joyful Fusion Wedding — Aashna & Matthew

Aashna and Matthew brought together the best parts of two cultures — lively traditions, bold colours, emotional moments, and incredible energy. This was a day full of laughter, movement and meaning… the kind of wedding that’s a joy to photograph in my candid, documentary style.

The Baraat — Dancing in the Rain

Northumberland weather didn't hold back — but neither did the guests.

Despite heavy rain, Matthew’s Baraat was full of energy, music and dancing. The guests embraced the moment completely, cheering and celebrating as they processed through the castle grounds. The rain actually added to the atmosphere — droplets bouncing off colourful clothing, umbrellas flying open, people laughing as they danced.

These are the kinds of real, unscripted moments that make candid wedding photography so powerful.

A Magical First Look on the Castle Rooftop

Before the ceremony, Aashna and Matthew chose to do a first look — and not just anywhere…They did it on the rooftop of Langley Castle.

With sweeping views across the Northumberland landscape and the ancient stone walls around them, it was an emotional, intimate moment. The contrast between Aashna’s beautiful  bridal wear and the rugged medieval stonework was absolutely breathtaking.

First looks are always a gift for natural, genuine storytelling — but a castle rooftop first look? That's another level.

A Beautiful Marquee Ceremony Filled With Colour and Culture

Their ceremony took place inside a stunning decorated marquee — warm, atmospheric, and filled with rich cultural elements that honoured both sides of their families.

The marquee setting was perfect:

  • Cosy despite the rain

  • Filled with vibrant colours, florals and fabric

  • A wonderful contrast to the stone castle outside

It felt intimate, personal, and uniquely them.

As a photographer who specialises in documentary-style wedding photography, marquee weddings offer amazing opportunities for moments full of emotion and connection. Aashna and Matthew’s ceremony was bursting with these.

Fun & Relaxed Couples Portraits in the Woodlands

After the ceremony, the rain eased enough for us to slip away into Langley Castle’s nearby woodland. This part of the day was relaxed, playful and full of laughter — exactly the energy I love to capture.

The woodland gave us:

  • Soft, flattering light

  • Rustic, natural textures

  • A peaceful break from the busy marquee

  • The perfect setting for creative wedding portraits

We created a mixture of fun, natural images and more dramatic editorial-style portraits. Nothing posed or stiff — just the two of them being themselves.

Dancing, Partying & Fireworks in the Castle Grounds

After the meal came the dancing — high-energy, colourful and full of joy to the sounds of a live band.. Fusion weddings always have the best party atmosphere, and this one did not disappoint.

The perfect finale?A stunning fireworks display within the castle grounds.

As the night sky lit up behind them, guests gathered and joined their bride and groom.  It was the kind of moment that feels straight out of a film — and looks even better in photographs.

Your story deserves to be told beautifully, just as it happened.
