The Hidden Oak - A Rain-Kissed, September Wedding | Georgina & Jamie

A Warm Welcome to The Hidden Oak — A Tees Valley Gem

If you’re dreaming of a wedding venue that blends the timeless charm of a countryside escape with an effortlessly relaxed atmosphere, The Hidden Oak is the perfect match. Nestled in the heart of the Tees Valley countryside, just minutes from Yarm and a short drive from Middlesbrough and Darlington, it delivers the beauty of a country house wedding — without the formality.

As a Tees Valley wedding photographer, I’ve worked at The Hidden Oak many times, and I’m genuinely honoured to be one of their recommended suppliers. Every wedding here feels unique, personal and joyfully unfiltered.

And Georgina & Jamie’s September wedding was no exception — beautifully intimate, emotion-filled, and despite the nonstop rain, absolutely joyous from start to finish.

A September Wedding Full of Heart (and Rain!)

If there’s one thing I love about my couples, it’s their ability to embrace whatever the day brings — and for Georgina and Jamie, the day brought rain. A lot of it. Heavy, persistent, unapologetic rain all day long.

But here’s the magic:Not once did it dampen the mood. Not once did anyone complain. Not once did it take away from the love, laughter, and energy that made their day so memorable.

Their outdoor ceremony went ahead under the protection of the stretched canopy — umbrellas, raindrops, soggy shoes and all — and it honestly made it even more beautiful. There was something incredibly romantic about seeing guests huddled together, smiling under the rain-soaked canopy, fully committed to the celebration.

This is exactly what I adore capturing through my documentary wedding photography approach: real moments, real emotion, real stories — unposed and unaffected.

Using Creative Spaces Indoors — Making the Most of The Hidden Oak

Because the weather was persistent, we had to think creatively for portraits. Luckily, The Hidden Oak has some brilliant indoor spots that lend themselves perfectly to creative wedding portraits, even on the wettest days.

We used the games room which had the additional benefit of the large glass doors allowing the stunning outdoor scenery to “step inside” so to speak. Then we moved into the corridor — a space you wouldn’t necessarily expect to use — but with the right angles, creative lighting, and a relaxed couple like Georgina and Jamie, it produced some of my favourite images of the day.

This is where my natural style thrives:no posing marathons,no forced smiles, just fun, easy going portraits where the two of you get to be yourselves.

Five Minutes of respite: Outdoor Portraits at The Hidden Oak

Later in the day, the rain paused for just a five-minute window. That’s all we needed.

We headed outside to make the most of the beautiful grounds. Even with the damp grass and heavy clouds, the surroundings looked stunning — the September colours, the moody skies, the sweeping countryside views.

These quick portraits were calm, romantic, and totally reflective of who Georgina and Jamie are as a couple.

When couples trust me — rain or shine — it allows me to create images that feel authentically them. And this is why I love The Hidden Oak; its grounds look fantastic in every condition, making it ideal for candid wedding photography and relaxed portrait sessions.

Evening Celebrations & An Emotional Father–Daughter Dance

When the remaining daylight disappeared and the fairy lights began to glow, The Hidden Oak transformed into that warm, soulful evening atmosphere I adore photographing.

After the first dance, Georgina shared a heartfelt dance with her dad — a moment packed with emotion and tenderness. These are the types of memories that stay with couples long after the wedding day, and capturing them is one of the most meaningful elements of my job.

These scenes were perfect for my documentary style — unobtrusive, honest, and real.
