Hazel Brow Farm Wedding in Richmond, North Yorkshire | Sophie & Martin’s Relaxed Yorkshire Dales Celebration

If you’re looking for a truly relaxed and scenic North Yorkshire wedding venue, Sophie and Martin’s intimate summer wedding at Hazel Brow Farm in Richmond is a perfect example of how beautiful a laid-back countryside wedding can feel.

Set in the heart of Swaledale within the Yorkshire Dales, Hazel Brow Farm offers something genuinely special — incredible views, peaceful surroundings, and the kind of atmosphere that naturally encourages people to slow down and enjoy the moment.

As a North Yorkshire wedding photographer and North East wedding photographer, these are exactly the kinds of weddings I love to capture — natural, meaningful, and centred around genuine moments rather than overly staged timelines.

People gather outside a large stone house with a lush lawn. Chairs and tables are set up. The sky is partly cloudy, creating a casual, relaxed mood.

A Relaxed & Intimate Yorkshire Dales Wedding

Sophie and Martin chose Hazel Brow Farm because they wanted something personal and relaxed.

Rather than opting for a large traditional venue, they chose this stunning rural farmhouse tucked away in the Yorkshire Dales — a setting that felt intimate, scenic, and completely true to them.

The entire day reflected that decision.

From the morning preparations onwards, everything had a calm, easy-going atmosphere that allowed everyone to fully enjoy the experience without feeling rushed or over-structured.

This is where my documentary wedding photography approach naturally fits in — quietly observing and capturing moments as they happen rather than constantly directing the day.

For couples looking for a North Yorkshire wedding venue that feels personal, laid-back, and visually beautiful without being overly formal, it’s hard to beat.

Hazel Brow Farm – A Unique North Yorkshire Wedding Venue

Hazel Brow Farm House is located near Richmond in North Yorkshire, right in the heart of Swaledale.

Surrounded by rolling countryside, open meadows, and views stretching across the dale towards the river, it’s one of those venues that instantly feels peaceful the moment you arrive.

The farmhouse itself is incredibly spacious, with eight bedrooms making it ideal not only for weddings, but also:

  • Family gatherings

  • Retreats

  • Birthday celebrations

  • Weekend stays with friends and family

For couples wanting a more intimate countryside wedding experience, it offers something very different from a traditional wedding venue.

And from a photography perspective, it’s an absolute dream.

The scenery alone creates endless opportunities for:

  • Candid wedding photography

  • Natural storytelling moments

  • And relaxed creative wedding portraits without needing to travel anywhere else

A Summer Ceremony Full of Emotion & Atmosphere

The ceremony took place inside the stunning farmhouse and perfectly reflected the overall feel of the day — relaxed, emotional, and full of genuine connection.

There was a lovely balance of energy and intimacy throughout the ceremony.

Nothing felt forced or overly formal.

Just real emotion, meaningful moments, and people fully present with one another.

This is exactly what I love about photographing intimate weddings.

The quieter atmosphere often allows moments to unfold even more naturally, which works beautifully with my natural style and documentary approach.

This is something I talk more about here: My style & approach to wedding photography

Relaxed Group Photos Without Interrupting the Day

After the ceremony, we spent a short amount of time capturing group photos outside against the incredible Yorkshire Dales backdrop.

As always, I approach this part of the day in a way that’s relaxed and efficient.

Group photos absolutely matter — but I never want them to dominate the wedding day or take couples away from their guests for long periods of time.

By keeping things organised and flowing naturally, we’re able to get the photos people want while still preserving the atmosphere of the day.

Creative Wedding Portraits in the Yorkshire Dales

One of the biggest advantages of Hazel Brow Farm is the scenery that surrounds it.

After the group photos, I took Sophie and Martin for a short walk around the grounds to create some relaxed couple portraits using the incredible landscape around us.

This is where I create my creative wedding portraits — but always in a way that feels natural and unobtrusive.

I firmly believe that a wedding day should feel like a wedding, not a photoshoot.

That means:

  • No long portrait sessions

  • No awkward posing

  • No disappearing for an hour while your guests wait for you

Instead, we keep things short, relaxed, and genuine.

And as this wedding proves, you don’t need a huge amount of time to create beautiful, meaningful images.

A Wedding Day That Stayed Relaxed from Start to Finish

What stood out most about Sophie and Martin’s wedding was how consistent the atmosphere remained throughout the entire day.

That same chilled, easy-going vibe from the morning carried right through the rest of the celebrations.

No rushing. No unnecessary pressure.Just people enjoying the moment together in an incredible setting.

This is exactly why I love candid wedding photography — because it captures not just how a wedding looked, but how it genuinely felt to be there.
