The Hidden Oak Wedding, Stockton | Ashleigh & Ed’s Relaxed Outdoor Celebration

If you’re searching for a North Yorkshire wedding venue (and local Teesside favourite) that perfectly balances countryside charm with a relaxed, modern feel, Ashleigh and Ed’s wedding at The Hidden Oak in Stockton is a perfect example.

If you're planning a wedding at Thirsk Lodge Barns and looking for a relaxed, natural North Yorkshire wedding photographer, this guide will give you a glimpse of what a real wedding day here can look like.

This is a venue I know incredibly well — it’s one of my favourites to work at as a North East wedding photographer, I’m a recommended supplier there, and being local means I’ve had the chance to photograph a number of weddings here over the years.

And every time, it delivers something special.

Why The Hidden Oak Is One of My Favourite Wedding Venues

There’s something about The Hidden Oak that just works.

The layout, the atmosphere, the surrounding countryside — it all lends itself perfectly to a relaxed, natural wedding day.

As someone who regularly photographs weddings here, I know exactly how to make the most of the space, the light, and the different backdrops throughout the day.

If you’re considering this venue, I have a useful, dedicated venue page you may want to read here.

For couples looking for a North Yorkshire wedding venue that feels personal, laid-back, and visually beautiful without being overly formal, it’s hard to beat.

Love the idea of natural, candid photography like this ?

A Relaxed Morning with a Chilled Atmosphere

From the very start of the day, Ashleigh and Ed’s wedding had a calm, easy-going feel.

Morning preparations were relaxed, with no sense of rush — just people enjoying the moment and the build-up to the ceremony.

This is where my documentary wedding photography approach naturally comes into play — capturing those real, unscripted moments without interrupting the flow of the morning.

This is something I talk more about here: My style & approach to wedding photography

An Outdoor Ceremony Under the Stretch Tent

The ceremony took place outside under the stretch tent, with views across the surrounding countryside.

It was the perfect setting — open, relaxed, and full of atmosphere.

There was a real mix of energy and emotion throughout:

  • Laughter

  • Nervous excitement

  • Genuine connection

Exactly the kind of moments that lend themselves beautifully to candid wedding photography.

Nothing forced. Nothing staged. Just real moments as they happen.

Confetti, Energy & Real Moments

After the ceremony, Ashleigh and Ed made their way through an energetic confetti walk — one of those moments that always brings a burst of life to the day.

Confetti is unpredictable, fast-paced, and full of genuine reactions, which makes it perfect for capturing natural, unfiltered moments.

This is where my natural style really comes through — focusing on the feeling of the moment rather than trying to control it.

Creative Wedding Portraits Without Taking You Away From Your Day

After the confetti, we took a short amount of time to explore the grounds of The Hidden Oak for couple portraits.

One of the biggest advantages of this venue is the outdoor space — it’s stunning, varied, and all within easy reach.

This allows me to create creative wedding portraits that feel relaxed and natural, without needing to take couples away from their guests for long.

I always keep this part of the day short and enjoyable — because I firmly believe your wedding day should feel like a wedding, not a photoshoot.

For Ashleigh and Ed, this meant:

  • Beautiful countryside backdrops

  • Natural, unposed interactions

  • And plenty of time spent actually enjoying their day

A Day That Stayed Relaxed From Start to Finish

What stood out most about this wedding was how consistent the atmosphere was throughout the entire day.

That same relaxed, chilled vibe from the morning carried all the way through into the evening.

No pressure. No over-complication. Just a day centred around people, connection, and enjoying the moment.

This is exactly what candid wedding photography is all about — capturing not just how the day looked, but how it felt.

A Personal Evening Touch – Live Music From the Groom

One of the most unique parts of the day came in the evening.

Ed, the groom, is a musician — and instead of just hiring a band, he was the band.

Watching him perform while friends and family filled the dancefloor created an incredible atmosphere and added a really personal, memorable touch to the night.

These are the kinds of moments that make a wedding truly yours — and they’re always some of the most powerful to capture.

Why The Hidden Oak Works So Well for Natural Wedding Photography

From a photography point of view, The Hidden Oak is ideal.

It offers:

  • Open outdoor spaces with beautiful natural light

  • A relaxed layout that allows moments to unfold naturally

  • Stunning countryside backdrops for effortless portraits

  • A flow to the day that never feels forced or overly structured

For a North Yorkshire wedding photographer or North East wedding photographer, it’s a venue that makes it easy to blend documentary wedding photography with creative wedding portraits.

Final Thoughts on Ashleigh & Ed’s Wedding

Ashleigh and Ed’s wedding was a perfect example of what happens when you keep things simple and focus on what really matters.

Great people.A relaxed atmosphere. And space for real moments to unfold naturally.
